In the medium of digital imagery, sound and language, the film tells a story departing from the idea of a transformative journey. It picks up underlying principles of making recent paintings and drawings, referencing alchemical motifs.
This video relates to Caravaggio’s Vocation of St Matthew and its installation in the Chiesa San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome and follows the question what the ‘voice’ could be about, which tacitly involves the notion of ‘vocation’ – as a call, mostly connected to an inner voice speaking or being intuited.
The video is part of a body of works (including as well the seven drawings for That Wordless Instant of Change and paintings for Postcards from San Luigi) focusing on how to approach the notion of ‘vocation’ from a contemporary, non-dogmatic angle.
The ancient philosopher Empedocles speaks about four elements ceaselessly coagulating into what we call ‘world’.The film follows the idea using pixellation and visual rhythms without sound. In an exhibition, the film relates to and becomes part of the installation of the series of drawings diversely streaming.
A film dedicated to a close friend who died of AIDS in 1994 in Frankfurt, Germany. I went back to Frankfurt many years later for footage and memories.

In Hölderlin's 'Death of Empedocles' he never commits this 'Falling', keeps a fragile balance.
